$5,700,000.00 – Semi-Tractor Trailer Fatigued Driver Crash
A family of four, while on vacation, was traveling to Disney World on U.S. Highway 27. They were stopped at a traffic light when a large semi-tractor trailer rear ended the family, killing one and causing serious injury to the car’s other occupants. During deposition it was revealed that the truck driver was in violation of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, as he was deprived of sleep. Punitive damages were claimed, resulting in a $5,700,000.00 award at trial.
